Hello friends!
This post, as you may have guessed from the title, is going to be a review of my first Pat McGrath palette, the Huetopian Dream eyeshadow palette. According to the website, this palette retails at $125 (and its currently sold out on the website). Pat McGrath, the Queen herself, says the following of this palette:
“Discover a cosmic destination for floral psychedelia in the ten stunning shades of Mothership IX: Huetopian Dream. I love to pair it with the new IntensifEYES™ Artistry Wand, my backstage secret weapon that effortlessly elevates pigment vibrancy and wear.”
The website also provides the following description:
Experience astral projection as you transform eyes into prismatic nebulas with these ultra-blendable, hyper-wearable hues. Ten cosmically creamy pigments venture from iridescent amethyst and solar bronze to shocking pink-coral. Six futuristic finishes — velvety matte, mesmerising metallic, luminous shimmer, mind-altering duochrome sparkle and transcendental triochrome let you gleam, smoulder and shape your way through a galaxy of looks. All shades are formulated with a next-generation technology to ensure seamless blendability and exceptional wear on every skin tone.
So, why did I buy this particular palette?
Well, I have heard so much about Pat McGrath from my favorite youtuber, Julia Adams. She owns all bigger palettes and other products from the brand and usually I wouldn't be drawn to this type of palette. As beautiful as I think it is, I tried to talk myself out of it. After all, $125 is not a price I would consider being within my budget of what I like to pay for any type of makeup, let alone a luxury product. But something I decided for 2022 was to give myself a limit-essentially, a low buy, for all my makeup products. This was something I wanted to do because I really have a shopping problem, but I especially have an eyeshadow palette problem. Honestly, I am a weakling and I told myself I might return this palette if I didn't absolutely love it, but I fell in love as soon as I pulled it out of the cardboard Sephora box. The outside packaging is gorgeous, and the palette itself looks so sleek and elegant.
But that was just the outside aesthetic.
My thoughts
This palette has absolutely gorgeous shimmer shades, and I believe three of them are multi-chromes. Personally, so far my favorite shades are Skinshow Nude Xtasy, which I use as an inner corner highlight, and BlitxSextreme on the entire lid. When on the eyes, the shift from pink to green is ever so subtle, but when swatched with a finger on the arm, you can see the duochrome effect clearly.
I have had no problems with the way the palette works. I find I like the mattes and don't need to dip into another palette to get a deeper outer corner. And, I believe if I needed to I could use all the matte shades as crease shades; I wish I could say more about the formula, but since this is my first time trying something that is of such high quality, I have nothing to compare it to. I will say that none of the shades are chalky, or hard to blend. The shimmers work better when swiped onto the eyelid.
In terms of my recommendation, I would say that if you want to invest in a luxury palette, this is one of many options. I know that Huda Beauty isn't counted as a luxury brand, but for me, its prices are high enough to be luxurious to me. The Naughty Nude palette (review coming soon) is one that I would also recommend if you want to invest in a high-quality eyeshadow palette.
So that is all I have for you guys! That was my honest review of my first ever Pat McGrath palette. I'd love to see what your thoughts are in the comments below. If you like what you see, don't forget to subscribe!
