Indie Makeup Brand Eyeshadow Review: Musee Beauty's Impressionism palette (First impressions!)

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

Wow, it has been soo long since I did a makeup review! My taste in makeup has changed completely since then, and I'm so excited to be back at this again.

I always found reviewing makeup so relaxing and fun. And lately, I've been stepping out of my comfort zone and adding more color to my looks, and trying indie brands instead of the typical mainstream brands.

So why Musee Beauty?

Well, in July and August I started watching and subscribing to quite a few small-time makeup lovers, and they mentioned Musee Beauty.

From the about page on their website:

"Makeup is an art form. Every stroke of your brush, every pigment placed perfectly, and every sweep of lipstick creates a masterpiece. You are an artist, and makeup is your medium. Musée Beauty understands this because we were created by people like you. We’re a collective of creatives that use makeup to innovate and express ourselves.

Art has inspired people for thousands of years— It’s started wars, influenced religion, and shaped culture. Art has recorded the birth of civilization and the fall of empires. We believe that inspiration for makeup can be drawn by looking through art history. This is why we created Musée Beauty.

Join our community of creators, disruptors, and visionaries and help us change the perception of makeup. Keep your eye out for new product launches, and stay engaged with us on our social media (@museebeauty). We can’t wait to start a movement with you.

This brand is so colorful and happy looking, and I knew I wanted to try their latest palette-The Impressionism palette- because I could see that they hadn't just called it that because everyone knows what Impressionism as an art style is. The founders and owners Kaya and Tara clearly put so much thought into the palette as a whole, and I fell in love with it.

I had been searching for the perfect rainbow palette to dd to my collection, but then I saw Amy from Amy Loves Makeup's review on the palette, and Annette from Annette's Makeup Corner's review and I just knew it would be worth it. I knew I wanted to give up the idea of a rainbow palette and go with the Impressionism palette instead.

So anyway, by the time this post goes up, hopefully I would've played with it a lot more, but until then, here are my first impressions:

So the packaging, first, is absolutely STUNNING. It made my heart warm when I saw Kaya's video on the release of the palette that Tara was the one who painted the picture for the front of the palette. I just love it, because it feels like there's both Van Gogh and Monet in that picture, and I just really appreciated the merging of the two artist's styles.

And when you open the palette, you see all the colors, and the names are also something I truly appreciate. I initially thought it would be only Monet, but I think there are some names that are supposed to be related to Edgar Degas-especially the one called "Dancers"-if you don't know Degas, he was known for his oil painting and pastel drawings of dancers.

I also really like that while the palette is colorful, it isn't an intimidating colorful. It's more like a palette that's colorful with pops of neutral here and there. When I started off with this look, I first went into my crease with the purple-pinky shade "Amaranthine". I layered it until I felt like it looked a little more vibrant than a crease shade would usually look, and then started to bring it down, kinda covering my lid with a light layer of it and blending until I was happy with it.

Then I went in with my Nyx Glitter eye primer and put that all over the lids. I put the shade "Waterlily" onto my lid, packing it on till I was happy with it.

My problems started when I went in with "Haystacks" on the outer corner. I couldn't get it to show up on the lid and ended up a little frustrated with the lack of pigment. But I didn't want to give up, so I used it to make a light outline of my outer corner, and then I used "Offline" from the Nabla Dreamy 2 palette (review coming soon!!) to fill it in.

When I was blending in things at the end, and after I added mascara and eyeliner, I knew I really liked the look, and I think if I play with it a little more, I will know for sure how I feel.

Here's a picture of the final look (lol I was so anxious I didn't even smile, sorry!):

But yeah, that's it for me! I hope you liked this review and found it helpful, and if you want to see more from me, hit subscribe!
